NSCDC deploys 60,000 personnel for general election

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have deployed 60,000 personnel to provide security coverage ahead of the February 16 and March 2, 2019 general elections. The deployment is in line with the Corps mandate of providing security before, during and after any electioneering process in the country.
The Commandant General of the Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu disclosed this at his Abuja National Headquarters office, while addressing his Management team, Zonal Commanders as well as State Commandants on the  modus operandi for the upcoming General elections as well as the immediate deployment of the Deputy Commandant Generals, Assistant Commandant Generals and the Commandants to various Zones and States for effective monitoring of the elections. 
The NSCDC Boss reiterated that the Corps is ready for the elections and adequate preparations have been made to ensure a covert and overt coverage of all polling units, collation centres and INEC offices across the country by the Corps personnel.  He added that all logistics required for smooth operations have been made available.
Gana charged his officers and men enlisted to take part in the elections to be good ambassadors of the Corps and shun all forms of partisanship but remain neutral while discharging their duties. He reaffirmed that the welfare of the staff is of utmost priority and that their wellbeing has been considered. Therefore, they should avoid compromise and unnecessary romance with politicians.
The CG also called on all politicians and their supporters not to heat the polity unnecessarily but to shun all forms of violence, thuggery, electoral malpractices and any form of criminal activities that could mar the electoral process as anyone caught shall face the full wrath of the law.
He also enjoined all Nigerians to pray for the country at this critical moment in our nation’s history that God should give us leaders that would serve the interest of the people. He said all the electorates should vote free and fair without any fear or intimidation from any quarters as personnel of the Corps have been deployed to sensitize the people and protect Critical National Assets and Infrastructure from been vandalised.
He charged personnel to be civil and carry out their duties with diplomacy and integrity bearing in mind the motto of the Corps ’’Defending the Defenceless’’
