The people of Orashi region of Rivers State, especially eligible voters have been admonished not to be demoralized by the impromptu postponement of the Presidential and National Assembly elections originally scheduled for last Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
They have therefore been requested to come out en masse to peacefully exercise their civic responsibilities according to their conscience, by resisting any intimidation or inducements on the new dates of Saturday February 23rd and Saturday March 9, 2019 as rescheduled by the electoral umpire.
The Oba (Eze-Ogba) of Ogbaland and former Chairman, Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers, His Eminence Sir (Dr) Chukumela Nnam Obi II (OON, DSSRS, AP, JP) who made the appeal while reacting to the impromptu shift of the 2019 general elections, said that the postponement of the elections at dying minute was unfortunate but pleaded with the people to give the Commission benefit of the doubt.
He noted that the election postponement must have caused great inconveniences and loss of money and time, he therefore sympathized with the people who spent money transporting themselves home and those who halted their daily businesses for the sake of the election and prayed God to replenish any loss.
The Ogba monarch, who renewed his appeal to all Nigerians irrespective of religion, ethnicity, gender, political affiliation or status to fervently pray for a peaceful 2019 general elections, noted that what Nigerians expect from politicians is to have a more united country called Nigeria at the end of the 2019 general elections.
According to the royal father, Orashi youths must learn from what happened in the area few years ago, by avoiding being used as tools for violence by desperate and greedy politicians and advised the Independent and National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies to be neutral and discharge their duties without fear or favour by not compromising their integrities.
He wished all Nigerians peaceful and credible 2019 general elections that will be generally accepted across the globe as the best elections so far conducted in the country.
The Orashi region of Rivers State is made up of four (4) large oil producing Local Government Areas namely Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahoada East, Ahoada West and Abua/Odua.
