The
Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps
Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu played host to representative of the
Minister of Defence, Dan-Mansur-Ali at the Corps National
Headquarters Abuja where he was decorated with the Fallen Heroes
Emblem. The Corps Chief Executive reiterated the need to give support
to the families of Fallen Heroes considering the ultimate sacrifice
paid with their lives in ensuring the unity of Nigeria.
He
charged members of the public,private individuals, corporate organisations amongst others, to always remember the gallant soldiers
who put their lives on the line to defend the territorial integrity
of the nation. That, every citizen of this country, both old and
youth, owe it as obligation to cater for the families this fallen
heroes left behind and no amount can be too much for their welfare.
He therefore gave assurance that the Corps at the Headquarters will
support the cause of the Fallen Heroes and thereby give directives to
the State Commandants to follow suite.
The
Secretary of 2019 organising Committee, Armed Forces Remembrance Day,
Major Issa Abdulhamid Jawondo on behalf of the Minister appreciated
the Commandant General and the Corps for the support in the previous
years as well as in 2018.
Major
Jawondo who decorated Gana stressed that the directive to move round
to decorate Chief Executives and seek for support in raising funds to
assist families of the Fallen Heroes is from the Presidency through
the Minister of Defence. He stated that the funds raised
have been on school fees and resettlement of families of the Fallen
Heroes.
In
the same vein, the Commandant General received students of Basic
Intelligence Course 11/2018 of the Defence Intelligence College on
study tour to the Corps Headquarters. According to the Commandant of
the College, Navy Commodore AM Ibrahim, the visit was necessitated by
the role and contributions of the Corps as a principal stakeholder to
National Security. Especially with regards to proffering solution to
the various challenges such as kidnaping, illegal bunkery, vandalism,
insurgency among others.
The
visit, he noted was to avail the students opportunity of knowing more
about the mandate of the Corps, its activities and the application of
unequalled strategy to combat security challenges in both short and
long run.
While
briefing the students and the directing staff, Gana stressed on the
core mandate of the Corps as protection of Critical Infrastructure
and National Assets, Disaster Management and the repositioning of the
Private Guards Industry in assisting to Police the Nation. He
emphasised on the issue of porous borders, the high level of drug
intake by women and youths especially in the North and charged the
students to be more proactive in tackling these issues as
intelligence Officers.
He
re-echoed that NSCDC as a grass root organisation, has put in place a
lot of mechanisms to checkmate insecurity in the country.
While
eulogising the Chief of Naval Staff for his continuous assistance to
the Corps by handing over of suspected vandals for prosecution, he
noted that the Corps has set up Command and Control Centre to monitor
the activities of vandals, oil thieves and illegal bunkery in the
South-South and will replicate same for other zones especially the
North-East to fight insurgency.
He
informed the team of the commencement of the training of 5000
personnel designated for Agro-Rangers assignment in Katsina for the
protection of the proposed ranches and Agro-Allied investment.
The
Commandant of the Defence Intelligence College, upon the request by
the Commandant General, assured him of training of the Corps
personnel on intelligence which is key to the success of any security
operation.
