NSCDC boss tasks personnel on synergy

The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu has organised a two day seminar for state commandants, senior officers and the management team at the Corps National Headquarters, Abuja.
The Seminar brought together stakeholders,  resource persons from prominent universities, legal luminaries and personnel charged with responsibilities of election monitoring.
The workshop, apart from serving the purpose of educating and enlightening field officers and state Commandants on their monitoring and supervisory roles in the forthcoming election was also to enhance the capacity and the capabilities of personnel to relate and work effectively with other agencies by building cordial relationship and  synergy with other sister agencies, before, during and after the election.
Gana, charged the Commandants to go back to their various states and impact their personnel positively from what they have learnt with a view to bringing about attitudinal change in their operational system.
In the same vein, he urged Corps personnel to behave in very enlightened fashion by being civil and diplomatic in their approach to the civil populace. That the Corps was established to protect and defend the defenceless citizens, so rather than intimidating and harassing innocent citizens with their uniforms and riffles, personnel should be protective of them.
He cautioned them not be involved in partisan politics but should remain neutral as the game of politics is strictly for politicians and not for public servants. Gana further stressed that it is mandatory for the Commandants to comb every nooks and crannies of their respective state to identify black spots and areas that are volatile for effective security coverage.
He cautioned that arm bearing personnel should be strategically deployed to protect critical infrastructure and asset of government against vandals and nefarious individuals who takes advantage of busy election days to perpetrate their illicit activities. Stressing also that they should rekindle their sense of patriotism and be ready to repel and deal decisively with anyone found to be involved in any acts of rebellion, ballot snatching, voters intimidation and other activities capable of jettisoning the peaceful conduct of the 2019 election.
The CG thereafter handed down the rules of engagement to all arms bearing personnel, cautioning them to exercise restraints and to exhibit professionalism in handling their arms and ammunition. That on no account must any report of accidental discharge or extra-judicial killing by any personnel get to his table and anyone involved in such unprofessional conduct should consider himself or herself dismissed and subsequently prosecuted.
