Governor Wike
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has called on Nigerians to discountenance the
illegal move by the Pro-APC Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) to declare four officials of the State Government
wanted.
He further stated that the Rivers State
Government will diligently fight the EFCC acts of impunity
within the ambit of the constitution, noting that the State
Government will not be cowed.
In a statement on Wednesday, Special
Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media, Simeon
Nwakaudu quoted the Rivers State Governor as saying that the illegal
action of the EFCC is aimed at armtwisting the court and
embarrassing the Rivers State Government.
The governor noted that the Rivers State
Government and the EFCC appeared on Tuesday (September 11,
2018) before the Federal High Court on the matter, which was
adjourned for ruling by the court.
He regretted that the EFCC in line with the APC
Federal Government's bad habit of acting in impunity,
went ahead to act outside the provisions of the law, just to gain
media mileage and satisfy negative political interests.
The governor declared: "We cannot be cowed
by the antics of the EFCC. The Rivers State Government remains
resolute that it will fight the illegal actions of the EFCC within
the ambit of the law.
"The EFCC can go ahead to declare the
Rivers State Governor wanted, but it must realise that nobody
in the state will be intimidated by their display of impunity and
disrespect for the rule of law".
Governor Wike said that nobody will allow the
EFCC and the APC Federal Government drag the country back to
1984 when lawlessness rained supreme.
He said: "They cannot distract us by their
political gimmicks and acts of illegality. We are focused on
the rule of law and we shall fight this reign of impunity
within the ambits of the constitution "
The Rivers State Governor declared that every
institution of Government including the EFCC must work within the
law.
He said the Rivers State Government will
continue to work diligently for the people of the state, irrespective
of the actions of the EFCC which are teleguided by what he called
the failed APC federal government.
