President Buhari Muhammadu Buhari decorates the new Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammad Abubakar Adamu at the State House Abuja

Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Mohammed Adamu has taken
over as the new Inspector General of Police, IGP.
Adamu
was taken to President Muhammadu Buhari by the former IGP, Ibrahim
Idris who decorated him in his new rank at the Presidential Villa,
Abuja.
Adamu
who is from Nassarawa State thanked President Buhari for finding him
worthy of the position and promised to be professional in the
discharge of his duties.
According
to a statement by Ag. DCP Jimoh Moshood Force Public Relations
Officer, Force Headquaters, “the Inspector General of Police,
IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, retires today, 15th January, 2019 from
service of the Nigeria Police Force at the age of Sixty (60) Years.
“The
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal
Republic of Nigeria has consequently directed that the outgoing
Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, NPM, mni, hand
over to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Mohammed
Abubakar Adamu,mni as the Acting Inspector General of Police.
“The
outgoing Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, NPM,
mni deeply thank the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed
Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria for the opportunity given to him
to serve under his administration as Inspector General of Police. He
also sincerely expresses gratitude to all Nigerians across the
Country for the cooperation and support they accorded him and the
entire personnel of the Force during his tenure. He enjoined them to
extend the same level of support and assistance to his successor, Ag.
IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu,mni.
“The
Acting Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Mohammed Abubakar
Adamu,mni hails from Lafia, Nasarawa State and a holder of BSc.
Geography. He enlisted into the Force on 1st February, 1986 as Cadet
Assistant Inspector General of Police.
“Ag.
IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu,is a versatile and seasoned Police
Officer, a professional per excellence. He attended several Senior
Officer Courses on Law Enforcement, Crime Prevention, Control and
Management within and outside Nigeria. Before his appointment as the
Acting Inspector General of Police, he was a Directing Staff at the
National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru,
Jos, Plateau State. He was Commissioner of Police in Ekiti and Enugu
States and also Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of
Zone 5 Police Command Headquarters, Benin, Edo State.
In
his statement after his decoration as new IGP, IGP, Mohammed Adamu
has promised to handle the forthcoming general elections in the
country in a professional manner, as he assured a level playing field
for all the candidates.
Adamu
who was an Assistant Inspector General, AIG, before his recent
appointment was decorated in his new rank by President Muhammadu
Buhari on Tuesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He
said, “I want to thank Mr. President for considering me worthy to
be the next Inspector General of Police. We know that there are
security challenges that we need to tackle in the country. From the
strategies put in place by the former IGP, we will restrategize and
make sure that we tackle these challenges squarely
“I

kidnapping, abduction and other security challenges.

On
what to expect during the forthcoming general elections, the acting
IGP said, “On the elections, you have heard from the former IGP,
adequate arrangement has been made to make sure that free and fair
and credible elections take place in Nigeria.
“We
are going to build up on the strategies put in place to make sure
that we have hitch-free elections in the country.”
When
also asked whether he was allaying the fears of the opposition that
he would not be partisan, he said, “Well, we are professionals. We
are going to stick by the rules. We are going to do the right thing;
we will not go outside the ethics of our job to do things that are
untoward. Everybody will be given level playing ground to play his or
her politics.”
