British
Prime Minister, Theresa May who arrived in Nigeria on Wednesday as
part of her visit to some African countries has described Nigeria as
“home to more poor people than any other nation in the world,”
despite thriving as a country.
The
Presidency had disclosed that President Buhari and May would sign
vital defence and economic agreements involving Nigeria and the UK.
May
it was gathered , during the meeting revealed that the United
Kingdom will increase its military support to Nigeria to protect
Nigerians and also its citizens from terror attacks. She said the
Nigerian military would be given specialist equipment and training
to counter the use of impoverised explosive device used by Islamic
fundamentalists.
The
British PM said tackling the menace from the groups like Boko Haram
was in the interest of the United Kingdom and agreed to a package of
10.5 million pounds to help the victims.
She
said the UK will provide counseling to 1,700 people who have been
subjected to forced labour, domestic servitude and sexual abuse to
help them re-integrate into their communities. She also revealed
that a joint initiate with France will assist Nigeria and Niger
strengthen their border cooperation to prevent trafficking of
migrants to Libya and Europe.
She
was earlier in South Africa before coming to Nigeria where she had
closed door meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa
in Abuja.
She
left the State House about 1:50pm Wednesday with the
normal funfair of the Brigade Band playing to her delight for Lagos
where she arrived the Presidential Wing of the
Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos at about 4.20 pm
amid tight security and red carpet reception. May arrived the airport
aboard Royal Air Force plane.
