CNN fires Kathy Griffin over controversial anti-Trump photo shoot

Kathy Griffin, is paying the price for that controversial anti-Trump photo-shoot . While the comedian apologized profusely for holding a mock severed “head” — resembling Donald Trump’s — during a photo shoot with provocative shutterbug Tyler Shields, she’s taking a hit where it hurts: her wallet.
CNN announced on Wednesday that it had “fired” the redheaded firecracker from her New Year’s Eve hosting gig, which she’s held for a decade, opposite Anderson Cooper. “CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program,” the network said in a statement.
Cooper had already tweeted that he was “appalled” by the photo, which saw Griffin holding a “head” that looked like the president’s, covered with blood. While Griffin, 56, faced the music and apologized pretty much immediately following the publication of the photo, that wasn’t good enough for CNN or Trump himself, who called her sick in a tweet on Wednesday Morning..
Trump also played the kid card, saying that his children were “having a hard time” with the photo, especially his 11-year-old son,Baron. (According to  TMZ, the boy thought the head really was his dad’s. The story claims that he was “in front of the TV watching a show when the news came on and he saw the bloody image. We’re told that he panicked and screamed, ‘Mommy, Mommy!’” While that story sounds a bit much, we’re sure it was unpleasant for the family.)

Ericsson must deliver on potential, new investor warns

Ericsson still offers “significant potential” despite its recent struggles, but must start to deliver on its restructuring strategy, activist investment company Cevian Capital insisted after acquiring a 5.6 per cent stake in the Swedish vendor.
According to Financial Times, the investment company spent $1 billion on the stake, and is now Ericsson’s second largest shareholder by capital, and the third biggest by votes.

APC did not conduct “Assessment Poll” on the Buhari Administration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied allegations that it conducted assessment poll on President Muhammadu Buhari. A statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Congress (APC) described the allegation as false and misleading .
For the record, the APC has not conducted or authorised any assessment poll on the President Buhari administration. The media and indeed the general public are advised to ignore the questionable poll.
The twitter handle, "@APCNigeria" with which the so called "assessment poll" was purportedly conducted is not the official twitter account of the APC.
Unfortunately, media organisations that published the story did not verify from the Party’s Publicity department the authenticity of the unauthorised poll credited to the Party.

Recall that the Party had on February 21, 2016 distanced itself from the twitter handle, "@APCNigeria” following a similar false report credited to the Party on the outcome of the Benue South Senatorial rerun election.”

Ericsson appoints in-house veteran as new CTO

Ericsson is facing costs of up to SEK15 billion ($1.7 billion) in Q1 after unveiling a strategic business revamp designed to lead the struggling vendor back to long-term growth.
New CEO and president Borje Ekholm (pictured) took the wraps off the new business strategy in an announcement today. The company hopes the approach will “revitalise technology and market leadership, improve group profitability and enable customer success”.
It said it will cut costs across the business, while focusing on fewer areas as it looks to take the fight to rivals Huawei and Nokia.
Ericsson said restoring profitability was key after being hit with consecutive quarters of losses, and it will start by streamlining its portfolio of services along with introducing a leaner top management structure.
This sees the company remove a layer from top management, and reduce its current set up of ten geographical locations into five market areas. As part of the plan, it will “explore” options for its media business, and refocus its managed services division.
Ekholm said the strategic focus had been developed after consulting customers around the world in an analysis of the company’s performance.

Osinbajo signs two new laws to ease access to credit for MSMES

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has signed into law two bills from  the National Assembly that will ultimately facilitate access to more affordable credit for Nigerians.
The bills which have now become 'Acts' are the Secured Transactions in Movable Assets Act, 2017 (otherwise known as Collateral Registry Act) and the Credit Reporting Act, 2017.
'The Collateral Registry Act' ensures that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nigeria can register their movable assets such as motor vehicles, equipment and accounts receivable in the National Collateral Registry, and use same as collateral for accessing loans. This in turn will increase their chances at accessing financing and tackle one of the major obstacles faced by MSMEs.
On the other hand, 'The Credit Reporting Act' provides for credit information sharing between Credit Bureaus and lenders (such as banks), as well as other institutions that provide services on credit such as telecommunication companies and retailers. (A Credit Bureau is defined as a company that collects information relating to the credit ratings of individuals and makes it available to financial institutions, who need such information to determine an individual's credit-worthiness and whether or not to grant loan applications to such individuals.)

Rule of Law: NBA lambasts FG over continued detention of Dasuki, El-Zakzaky

The Nigerian Bar Association NBA has lambasted the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government over the continued detention of a former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Das‎uki and the leader of Shi'ite movement, El-Zakyzaky despite court orders which admitted them to bail.
The National President of the Bar, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud SAN who lambasted the government ‎during a press briefing in Abuja to mark this year's democracy day added that such disobedience to court orders is uncalled for and does not show compliance to rule of law.
"The NBA is appalled at the continued detention of certain individuals in blatant disobedient to court orders. Among these individuals are Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakyzaky and his wife, and also Col. Sambo Dasuki. While we recognize the seriousness of the charges in which individuals were held, we nevertheless viewed their continued detention as unjustified and contrary to the express court orders. We call on the government to without further delays respect theses orders".
In the same light, the NBA further called for the termination of investigations against judges who were accused of corruption but have not been charged before the court since the past eight months.
"In the wake of the arrest and detention of certain judicial officers by the DSS, the NBA had taken the view that the judges affected should recluse themselves from judicial functions until the investigation and outcomes of those investigations were determined, we note that nearly eight months after those investigations were launched, some of the judges have not been prosecuted or charged before any court of law.

No shootings in Aba, Umuahia and entire South Eastern region--Army

The Nigerian Army has debunked allegations of shootings in Aba, Umuahia and entire South Eastern region.
Colonel Sagir Musa, the Deputy Director Public Relations 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in the statement said, “the attention of 82 Division Nigerian Army has been drawn to another allegation made by IPOB in a  Statement the group released at about 1645 hours on Monday 29 May 2017, that - "there was sporadic shootings by the Army in Aba and Umuahia axis".. and that soldiers opened fire on its members in Aba during a procession in honour of those who died during the Biafra civil war.
The Division wishes to state  there was no soldier at the venue or vicinity where the procession took place. Also, there was no crisis or breakdown of law and order in Aba, Umuahia and in the whole of South Eastern part of Nigeria as to warrant/justify  "use of firearms' as falsely and mischievously alleged by IPOB propagandists.
What is obvious, however, is an increase in the presence of security agencies on routine patrols in different locations in the region, particularly areas that are regarded as real or potential flash points. The aim is to pro actively checkmate possible security breaches in view of sordid/divisive utterances and in some cases blatant actions by secessionist agitators”.

.... Lagos Generates More IGR than 31 States Combined …
... Economic Viable States: Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Edo, Kwara and Delta States
... Poor IGR States:  Borno, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Jigawa

The Economic Confidential, the award winning Economic Intelligence Magazine, has released its Annual States Viability Index ( ASVI) which shows that fourteen States are insolvent as their Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) in 2016 were far below 10% of their Federation Account Allocations (FAA) in the same year.

The IGR are generated by states through Pay-As-You-Earn Tax (PAYE), Direct Assessment, Road Taxes and revenues from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA)s.

DEMOCRACY DAY SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, THE ACTING PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA

DEMOCRACY DAY SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF. YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN, THE ACTING PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA, COMMEMORATING THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF THE BUHARI ADMINISTRATION, MAY 29, 2017

Dear Nigerians, I bring you good wishes from President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who as we all know is away from the country on medical vacation.

  1. Today marks the second anniversary of our assumption of office. We must thank the Almighty God not only for preserving our lives to celebrate this second anniversary, but for giving us hope, strength and confidence as we faced the  challenges of the past two years.
  2. Our administration outlined three specific areas for our immediate intervention on assumption of office: these were Security, Corruption and the Economy.
  3. In the Northeast of our country,  the terrorist group Boko Haram openly challenged the sovereignty and continued existence of the state, killing, maiming, and  abducting, causing the displacement of the largest number of our citizens in recent history. The Nigerian Air Force  (NAF) has held a retreat on Base Defence Planning. The retreat took place from 25-26 May 2017 at the recently commissioned Ibrahim Alfa Auditorium in the Air Force Institute of Technology Kaduna.
The retreat was aimed at further educating relevant stakeholders on the new NAF base defence concept, which is premised on the development and deployment of an air-minded ground defence force, trained and equipped as special light infantry and capable of operating both inside and outside the base perimeter against contemporary threats while leveraging on intelligence and available modern technology.
Consequently, participants at the retreat included base commanders, regiment officers, intelligence officers, air provost officer, all of who have specific roles to play in securing and defending NAF bases.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the retreat, reminded participants that despite its potency, airpower still has limitations, one of which is the issue of security of bases.
According to him, “Given the importance of bases in the airpower delivery matrix, it is not inconceivable to expect our adversaries to target our bases. As a matter of fact, we have had an attack on one of our airbases in the recent past, and current intelligence reports keep highlighting the possibility of attacks on our bases.

Ekweremadu, Umahi beg Biafra agitators to shelve sit-at-home call

Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ike Ekweremadu and Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, have again  appealed to Biafra agitators  calling for a sit-at-home compliance  on Tuesday  to allow people to go about  their normal business.
Ekweremadu  and Umahi made the appeal during an Interdenominational church service organized  by the Ebonyi State Government to mark this year’s Democracy Day in Abakaliki.
They  noted that bad approach to genuine struggle was not good, encouraged the Igbo  to work in unity in order to achieve their aim irrespective of how long it takes.
Ekweremadu said, "On the issue of IPOB and stay at home order, I just have one advice. You cannot have two governments in a state. If anybody says you should stay at home, if you are a trader you can choose to stay at home or go out. But if you are a civil or public servant ,you are under obligation to go to work.
" I addressed the World Igbo Congress in Enugu and I told them that we all condemn the marginalisation of our people. We can never support it and we will continue to fight against it wherever we find ourselves. It is our life but  I advise that no one or group should   engage in any arm struggle no matter the level of provocation. The  idea of trying to force people to do your will, I don't think it's right.
